- ➤ Firefighters responded at 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening to a grease fire at Jack in the Box on North Sullivan Road, evacuating customers and staff—no injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation. KHQ
- ➤ On Saturday evening, firefighters arrived around 7:30 p.m. at a Jack in the Box on the 700 block of North Sullivan Road to find the restaurant being evacuated due to a grease fire—no injuries were reported as crews contained the fire to the kitchen fryers while the cause remains under investigation. - ➤ Spokane Valley police arrested Tandy C. Parker, 58, after a standoff on July 24 that began with a domestic violence call on the 10100 block of East 15th Avenue—he now faces fourth-degree assault and resisting arrest charges and was booked into jail. FOX 28 Spokane
- ➤ On Sunday morning, police responded to a shooting on 57th Avenue near Hatch Road on Spokane’s south hill where two men with gunshot wounds went to the hospital—one in serious condition and the other with non-life-threatening injuries—and no arrests have been made as officers investigate a person of interest while confirming the public is not at risk. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Spokane County voters have just over a week left to return mailed ballots for the primary election on Tuesday, Aug. 5—voters who have not registered must sign up online or by mail by today. Ballots must be postmarked by 8 p.m. on Election Day and drop boxes are available across the county. FOX 28 Spokane
- ➤ Shelby Lambdin, a South Hill resident and CHAS Health director, is expected to be appointed to fill a temporary vacancy on Spokane City Council after Lili Navarrete resigned due to health reasons—she will serve for four months until voters elect a permanent council member in November. - ➤ Spokane County Fire District 8 will ask voters on August 5 to decide on an EMS levy lid lift that would raise the tax rate to 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed value—roughly a 29-cent increase for a $750,000 home. Fire Chief Lonnie Rash said the measure will fund the hiring of two firefighter paramedics and the purchase of critical emergency equipment, including cardiac monitors and a transport-capable vehicle.
