- ➤ On July 30, 2025, Spokane Valley authorities responded to a crash on Pines Road near I-90 when a DUI-charged driver hit a cyclist who was towing a dog; the cyclist was taken to the hospital in critical condition + the dog was uninjured as investigators review camera footage while the ramp on State Route 27 remains closed. - ➤ On July 29th, 2025, a Spokane County Sheriff's deputy pursued a driver—40-year-old Matthew D. Gardner—who sped, made a U-turn on a dead-end road and rammed a patrol car, leading to minor injuries for both and a vehicle seizure for suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine, with Gardner booked on felony charges. - ➤ Spokane Valley Summer Theatre will start its production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat tomorrow and run through Aug. 17 as part of its tenth anniversary season. - ➤ State and local officials secured nearly $3 million in opioid settlement funds for Maddie’s Place, a nonprofit that helps newborns with neonatal abstinence syndrome and their parents, after Washington lawmakers approved the budget in April—Spokane County and the city provided extra support. On Monday, the City Council named Shelby Lambdin as a temporary District 2 member until the November election, and the NAACP hired Melissa Mace as its first executive director in 106 years to boost its outreach and advocacy.
