Spokane Falls Community College has opened an evacuation shelter in its Small Gym with snacks, water, toiletries and dinner provided for evacuees while house pets and service animals are allowed, excluding large animals.
🌲 Environment
Evacuation orders were issued Saturday for areas (from Newkirk Road to Trails Road and from Westwood Lane to Dowdy Road) near Airway Heights as a wildfire expanded to 100 acres, prompting residents to leave immediately due to life-threatening conditions.
Wildfire evacuations expanded today at 6:32 p.m. near Mead to include areas along Pleasant Prairie Road + Fairview Rd + Market St; officials reported the 250-acre fire continued advancing and an evacuation center opened at Northwood Middle School for affected residents.
On August 1, the 700-acre Fairview Fire in Mead led to expanded level 3 evacuations along several roads, as emergency centers opened at Northwood Middle School and Avista warned that power could be off until Monday + local agencies worked to contain the wildfire.
