When fires devastated Greenwood Place, neighbor Tim Aspenliter used his 100-foot hose to extinguish flames threatening Rebecca Caron’s unoccupied home while many houses were lost and the family plans to show their thanks with homemade banana bread.

Amazon is sending over 26,000 emergency supplies (including air purifiers, masks, diapers, hygiene kits, gloves, boots, and hydration packs) to aid wildfire victims and firefighters in Spokane, arriving today from its Wildfire Relief hub in California.

The company will coordinate with community partners for further relief.

After the Spike and Dig tournament left extra supplies, vendors gathered at Mt. Spokane High School on Sunday to provide food and water for wildfire crews during an evacuation.

The group served lemonade and kettle corn (their way to give back) to support firefighters.

Firefighters continue to battle the priority Autumn Lane Fire in north Spokane and Stevens County as two fire heads push north through Barney Coker Canyon, with the incident having burned about 8,026 acres and affected between 700 and 1,100 structures.

Spokane Public Schools opened a free emergency drop in camp at Shadle Park High School where kids ages 4+ affected by local fires can enjoy games and lunch today.

It will reopen tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and remain open through the week.

On Monday, the Mead School District met to plan support measures and canceled school events for the rest of the week due to wildfires that are forcing level 3 evacuations at several elementary schools (Brentwood, Evergreen, Highland, Prairie View, and Skyline), with the first day of school set for Aug. 26.
