COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A nonprofit is hosting its annual back-to-school event at Underhill Park tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., providing over 6,000 new pairs of shoes, backpacks, and school supplies for children in grades K-12 plus a talent show at 2:00 p.m. with cash prizes and city leader speeches to kick off the school year. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ At least one person was stabbed near Riverfront Park on Thursday night and the suspect in a green sweatshirt fled to a pedestrian bridge where police were trying to subdue him — officers reported that a second victim may also have been stabbed and their condition is still unknown. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Spokane Valley voters approved Proposition 1 with 59% support, raising the sales tax by 0.1% to fund more police resources. The new tax increases the rate to 9% and is expected to bring in at least $2.6 million in 2026—city officials said it could add 10 officers over the next two years. The Spokesman-Review
