COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Northeast Youth Center is hosting its annual lemonade stand fundraiser at the corner of North Haven and East Queen in Hillyard from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., where kids will sell lemonade to raise $10,000 for a trip to Flight 509.  KXLY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dave and Buster’s will open Monday at 10 a.m. at 13921 E. Mansfield Ave. in Spokane Valley offering an arcade, bar and restaurant under one roof—this is the fourth location in Washington with the nearest spot over 200 miles away in Bellevue.  The Spokesman-Review

CRIME NEWS

  • A man named Colin L. Pedro, 20, was arrested Friday afternoon near Post Street Bridge and charged with assault and murder in second degree after a stabbing on August 7 left one person dead and another injured — police said the surviving victim had a romantic relationship with him while the investigation continues.  FOX 28 Spokane

CULTURE NEWS

  • Since 2002, the Blue Waters Bluegrass Festival has brought families together at Medical Lake’s Waterfront Park and kicked off Friday with nine bands including headliner Laurie Lewis—her band The Right Hands will share songs from a new album. Today, attendees can join workshops and listen to sets by local and regional acts while Sunday’s performances and camping will complete the weekend event.  The Spokesman-Review

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of Spokane launched an online survey for residents to share their policy ideas on fighting climate change — from city regulations to education investments — that builds on an earlier survey about local vulnerabilities. Participants may be eligible for a $50 gift card.  KHQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Providence will close its orthopedic physical therapy programs in Spokane and Stevens counties — affecting about 60 employees — as it cuts costs due to state and federal funding cuts. The outpatient clinics at St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Medical Center, Providence Medical Park in Spokane Valley, and St. Joseph’s in Chewelah will end services on October 3 while patients are directed to similar services elsewhere.  Spokane Public Radio
