  • Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Ken Salas died on August 9 when a motorcycle struck him on I-90 near the Four Lakes exit while he cleared a traffic hazard—SCOPE is now raising donations to cover his funeral expenses and support his family.  Spokane County

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Spokane Valley Fire Department reported a structure fire today on East Montgomery Avenue when smoke was seen coming from the ceiling of a cold storage unit — crews controlled the blaze with sprinklers and no injuries were reported while delays are expected in the area.  KXLY
  • Firefighters are battling a structure fire at a bottling plant on the 11000 block of East Montgomery just before 3:00 p.m.+ additional crews are arriving as drivers are advised to avoid the area with no injuries reported.  KHQ

CRIME NEWS

  • On Wednesday morning, an adult fleeing law enforcement crashed into a Washington State Patrol car on Interstate 90 near Argonne Road—troopers reported that the suspect, who was speeding at 80 mph in a 60 mph zone, was arrested on a DUI charge with a blood alcohol content of 0.24 and no injuries were reported.  The Spokesman-Review

  • Blues music icons Keb’ Mo’ and Shawn Colvin will perform at Fox Theater next Thursday. Tickets start at $45—local fans can enjoy a unique blend of blues and folk sounds in an engaging live show.  The Spokesman-Review

HEALTH NEWS

  • An unvaccinated child in Kootenai County tested positive for measles—health officials say this case may signal more undetected spread that could reach Spokane Valley due to travel ties. Health providers have received alerts and a vaccination clinic is scheduled at Shaw Middle School on Aug. 27 from 3 to 6 p.m. to help protect the community.  The Spokesman-Review
