BUSINESS NEWS

  • Honeywell Electronic Materials Inc. will expand its Spokane Valley plant with Project Copperfield by building a new 111,000‑square‑foot manufacturing facility, a 3,300‑square‑foot chemical storage building and adding 136 parking spaces, with construction set to begin in Q3 2025 and completion expected by Q4 2027—employees will be retained and over 80 new jobs are expected as workers receive training on automated systems.  Spokane Journal of Business
  • Raising Cane’s will open its new Spokane location on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 9252 North Newport Highway—near Spokane’s only Chick-fil-A. The chain—one of the fastest-growing in the country—is expanding its footprint with this being its second location in Washington.  KHQ

CRIME NEWS

  • Several small brush fires along Mirabeau Park’s trail appeared overnight on August 14 — the second series this week following six small fires on August 12, and fire, law enforcement and natural resources officials are investigating the suspicious incidents.  FOX 28 Spokane

CULTURE NEWS

  • Spokane Public Radio has changed its longtime variety programming into three single-format stations—one for news, one for classical, and one for jazz—to attract more listeners and strengthen finances without cutting staff. SPR President John Decker said the change follows years of research and helps the nonprofit maintain free programming for the community.  Spokane Journal of Business

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Spokane Valley completed its fourth round of safety improvements at the 16th and Bowdish roundabout on Thursday, expanding the inner circle and sidewalks to slow drivers. Residents reported continued dangerous driving and reckless behavior, noting in captured videos that motorists ignored road signs and drove over the extended areas—raising concerns about intersection safety.  KXLY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Providence Inland Northwest announced that several orthopedic physical therapy programs will close on Oct. 3, impacting about 60 employees in Spokane, Spokane Valley and Chewelah. The decision comes due to state and federal funding cuts — local providers will coordinate to support the transition for current patients.  Spokane Journal of Business
  • Four independent orthopedic groups launched the Washington Orthopaedic Value Network in June to share treatment protocols, reduce care costs, and improve patient care. Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists in Spokane Valley remains independent but partners closely with other groups — offering coordinated treatment without losing local expertise.  Spokane Journal of Business
