- ➤ Green Bluff orchards now have plenty of peaches after last year's harsh weather left trees nearly bare — local visitors fill their baskets as families enjoy a sweet season. Beck’s Harvest House said the turnout is triple and peach picking will continue through fall. KXLY
- ➤ In Spokane, mother Renee Rogers channeled her grief by using nearly $200 in community donations to take Ava on a back-to-school shopping trip for supplies—Ava will attend the same school her late son once went to. This act, done six months after Gavin was shot, will help keep his legacy of kindness alive. FOX 28 Spokane

- ➤ On August 17th, a black Angus cow got loose on I-90 westbound near the Hamilton Street off-ramp and caused several lanes to be blocked while Washington State Patrol worked to load the animal back into its trailer, slowing traffic in the area. FOX 28 Spokane

- ➤ Spokane police arrested Taylor Gudgel, 36, on charges of first-degree rape—domestic violence, first-degree kidnapping—domestic violence, felony violation of a domestic violence order, unlawful imprisonment—domestic violence and first-degree assault after officers answered a 911 call near Greene Street and Sprague Avenue on the night of August 16; they later found Gudgel and a woman with a protection order at a home on East 26th Avenue and took the injured man and woman to a hospital. - ➤ Local residents attended a free event at Hillyard Senior Center on August 14 to celebrate 90 years of Social Security as AARP Washington hosted sessions statewide. U.S. Representative Michael Baumgartner warned that future benefits may drop by up to 20%—AARP said all agree on the need to protect payments. FOX 28 Spokane
- ➤ At an August 14 meeting, Planning Manager Steve Roberge said Spokane Valley is set to add nearly 21,000 residents over the next 20 years—using 681 acres for residential development that could support about 6,000 new housing units.
