  • Today the local animal shelter asked for help by calling on volunteers and donations—like pet food, funds, and supplies—to support staff and care for the animals.   • Spokane Valley will host the free COPS and KIDS Car Show at Balfour Park, 105 N. Balfour Road, on Saturday, August 23 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event features police displays, music, games, food trucks and a back-to-school supply drive — offering fun for all ages.  Spokane County
  • Residents can visit Hillyard Farmer's Market on Monday, August 25 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. for a Back-to-School Street Fair—this event features a kids fun zone, free food for families, local vendors and free resources like legal aid and health info.  KXLY

CRIME NEWS

  • Kelly Porinchok, a 21-year-old with brown hair and blue eyes last seen near South McClellan Street and West 8th Avenue in Spokane on August 17 while wearing a gray and pink nightgown and slippers, is considered endangered by the Washington State Patrol and authorities ask anyone with information to call 911.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Spokane Police are looking for the missing endangered 21-year-old Kelly Porinchok who was last seen on August 17 at a local medical facility where he left before being seen, and he is described as 5'11" with brown hair, blue eyes, wearing a knee-length nightgown with pink leopard spots and slippers while he lacks money or a phone — anyone with information is urged to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.  KXLY

  • A heat wave is expected to boost fire activity in Spokane Valley today. Firefighters are preparing to respond quickly and remind residents to remain alert — dry conditions may spark new fire threats.  KXLY

  • The city postponed the Wellesley Avenue Preservation Project near East Valley High School by nine days from its August 12 start due to the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 302 strike in its second week+ city officials are working with a new contractor to complete repairs before classes resume.  FOX 28 Spokane
