  • Jim Hall from Butler Amusements said that ride safety at Spokane Fair remains a top priority even after a fire at Vista Stadium did not affect their plans; he explained that all rides will undergo rigorous inspections (including third-party evaluations) and cautioned against using cell phones on rides.  FOX 28 Spokane

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire damaged Avista Stadium's concessions building early this morning at 2:30 a.m.—fire crews reported no injuries as parts of the structure collapsed and stadium officials expressed heartbreak while parking for the nearby fair remains open.  KHQ

CRIME NEWS

  • A man was arrested Thursday night after the Spokane County Sheriff's Office received reports of a hit-and-run and a driver slumped over in an SUV near Progress Road and 16th Avenue—officials later located a matching vehicle on State Route 27 and booked him on charges of driving while impaired and hit-and-run—.  KHQ
  • Kevin Coe, known as the South Hill rapist, is set to be released from the McNeil Island commitment center into a care facility—two psychologists ruled his age and poor health no longer justify civil commitment—while he must continue registering as a sex offender and face a trial in Spokane County on Oct. 2.  FOX 28 Spokane

  • Members of the Spokane Tribe of Indians and neighboring tribes gathered Friday at the Spokane Plains Battle Monument to honor their resilience with storytelling and drumming—marking more than a century of cultural tradition.
