- ➤ The Southeast Spokane County Fair in Rockford will run from September 19 through 21 and will offer free admission with events including food booths starting at 11 a.m.—livestock showing, parades, live music, contests, and a tractor show. Families will enjoy extra attractions like an inflatable fun farm, a pie eating contest, and a soapbox derby throughout the weekend. KXLY

- ➤ City leaders in Spokane Valley updated their hazard mitigation plan to reduce risks from wildfires, severe storms and other hazards—such as earthquakes, landslides, drought and hazardous materials from rail and truck freight—after a community conversation informed residents of the region's top threats. - ➤ Spokane Public Schools and Spokane Parks are hosting four community meetings to answer questions about the Together Spokane initiative — launched on February 20 — as it seeks to gauge community awareness before the November election. KHQ
- ➤ On Monday afternoon, Washington’s constitution was on display at Spokane’s Central Library—its first showing east of the Cascades—where state officials said the document was carefully transported and guarded to preserve its condition. Spokane Public Radio
- ➤ The first Together Spokane townhall is set for Tuesday night in Northeast Spokane to discuss a proposal that would add a small extra tax on homes (for example, about $10.88 monthly for a $450K home in 2026) to fund projects at schools and parks. - ➤ Landowners in a Spokane County water district north of the Spokane River will vote October 7 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 9227 E. Upriver Dr. on whether to annex a proposed 100-acre subdivision for up to 400 new homes in Pasadena Park. Residents set the election after three hours of public comment raised concerns about water rights, traffic and schools — qualified voters must bring a photo ID and their parcel number or address. - ➤ The Spokane Valley City Council held a public hearing Tuesday night on the Spokane Regional Emergency Communications tower and discussed a formal flag policy prompted by a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling. Residents had the opportunity to share their views on the emergency ordinance that allowed a 120-foot tower and on the proposal that grants the mayor authority over alternate flag displays. - ➤ Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs raised concerns on September 16th when the DOJ requested sensitive voter information (driver’s license numbers, partial Social Security numbers, and birthdays) to screen voter records, and he said his team reviewed the letter and has less than two weeks to respond while questioning if the data might be used against non-citizens since the DOJ declined to comment further.
