  • Venardos Circus is coming to Spokane Valley this weekend — bringing live shows and carnival rides for families.  KXLY
  • Residents at North Point Village turned tables of donated items into an assembly line to pack non-perishable snack bags for Second Harvest—Spokane's food bank. The bags included a handwritten note and were delivered yesterday to help those in need—reinforcing local support.  FOX 28 Spokane

CULTURE NEWS

  • Latinos in Spokane head into Hispanic Heritage Month with resilience amid immigration crackdowns as local business owner Palacios adapts her clinic’s services by offering Know Your Rights cards and discounts while organizations adjust events to honor their culture. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Central Valley Virtual High School opened last year and has doubled its enrollment as more students choose flexible learning + get personalized support from teachers. Students attend two classes every six weeks + can meet teachers in person or over Zoom for extra help.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Spokane faces a $13 million budget deficit that city leaders will balance by late November. The shortfall is due to weak consumer confidence, a slowing national economy, and rising jail costs—officials plan to find efficiencies by eliminating vacant positions and restructuring debt obligations.  KXLY
  • Denys, a Ukrainian refugee who has worked as a welder in Spokane for three years, lost his legal work authorization when parole renewals were halted by federal policy changes+he now relies on his sponsor while struggling to support his family. Immigration attorney Sam Smith said many Ukrainian immigrants in the area face the same uncertainty as they wait for a clear path to work legally.  FOX 28 Spokane

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pneumonia is a serious lung infection that can be very dangerous for older people—who may need extra care—and anyone with high fever, cough, or chest pain should get help fast. Doctors say early treatment and vaccination can keep the infection from causing severe problems.  The Spokesman-Review
  • A Spokane Valley family faces ongoing health struggles as two young boys receive regular infusions in Seattle for Batten Disease, and frequent travel for surgery adds to their burden. The family has seen more setbacks—Kristian now has multiple sclerosis while their daughter experiences epileptic seizures—and recently won a van to help ease travel costs.  KXLY
  • Community leaders gathered downtown today for the first No Wrong Door summit—focusing on fighting rising opioid overdoses that are nearing one death per day in 2025. The six-hour meeting brought together local representatives, health professionals, and people touched by addiction to vote on ways to remove recovery barriers and support changes in state rules.  KXLY
