  • A retired cop launched a traveling free laundry service for local homeless residents on October 3rd—he started the service to give back to his community.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • The Hope 4 Kids Hygiene Drive remains open for donations as more than 4,000 lbs. of hygiene supplies were delivered Friday to school districts in Mead, Central Valley, and Coeur d’Alene — a contribution valued at over $200,000 that helps local students access essential items.  KXLY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fans lined up on Friday for Taylor Swift’s Official Release Party of a Showgirl, and the film is still drawing Swifties to Magic Lantern Theater and AMC River Park Square—offering new music videos and behind-the-scenes stories that boost local theater support.  KHQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gonzaga University is expanding its nurse anesthesiology program by increasing class sizes from 28 to 40 and moving training to the UW School of Medicine building next year—new facilities will add over 8,700 square feet of space and help ease the shortage of nurse anesthesiologists amid 475 recent applications.  The Spokesman-Review

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • October's damp weather has spurred a rise in moss gardening as local gardeners in Spokane Valley use native moss to brighten both yards and homes—demand for moss terrariums and wall art is growing with the eco-friendly trend.  FOX 28 Spokane

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers found that free school meals lowered high blood pressure in children by nearly 11% over five years at schools with the program, showing that healthier meals can also help reduce obesity risks. Lawmakers may use these findings when deciding on school meal funding, and cuts to food programs (like SNAP) could undo these gains.  FOX 28 Spokane

SPORTS NEWS

  • Don Monson, a well-known Inland Northwest college basketball coach, passed away Wednesday night at 92. He coached at Cheney High and Pasco High—helping shape local basketball history and inspire many coaches in our community.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Gonzaga basketball will host its annual Kraziness in the Kennel showcase today at the McCarthey Athletic Center; doors open at 3 p.m. and the event—which features player introductions, a 3-point contest and a scrimmage—starts at 4 p.m. The team also celebrated a positive week with German guard Jack Kayil's commitment and transfer Tyon Grant-Foster being cleared to practice, setting a hopeful tone for the season.  The Spokesman-Review
