COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Spokane Valley locals can enjoy the Monster Market Trunk-or-Treat event at the Spokane County Fairgrounds parking lot on Halloween night from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.—it will feature live music, a scavenger hunt, costume contests, food vendors and a beer garden. Admission is $5 per person for those 13 and older or $10 per vehicle, and children 12 and under enter free.  KXLY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Spokane Seed Company, founded in 1908, now ships nearly half of Spain’s lentil consumption and holds exclusive contracts with major brands. President Andrew Fontaine said the company is adding AI-driven tech—using drones for field surveys—to help farmers cut herbicide use—boosting savings and protecting produce quality.  Spokane Public Radio
  • Spokane-based PotlatchDeltic and Florida-based Rayonier announced they will merge in an all-stock deal that will create the second-largest public timber company in North America. The deal will close in the first half of next year and shareholders will get 1.7339 Rayonier shares per PotlatchDeltic share (about $44.11 a share) as key local offices in Spokane are maintained.  Spokane Journal of Business

CULTURE NEWS

  • Spokane Symphony will present the Music of Harry Potter concert on Saturday, October 25 at 3 p.m. at the Fox Theater, where families can enjoy a Diagon Alley-inspired vendor market and hands-on crafts—costumes are welcome and wands encouraged. A sensory-friendly version will run on Sunday, October 26 with adjusted lighting and sound—tickets for that performance are available only at the Box Office.  KXLY

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Mercer Mass Timber LLC in Spokane Valley received $250,000 from the Washington State Department of Commerce through Greater Spokane Inc.—funds that will pay for permitting, engineering and installing a new assembly line. The grant adds to a $30 million private investment expected to create roughly 50 new jobs.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washington records show that multiple marriage licenses, including those for couples in Spokane Valley, were issued throughout Spokane County while several marriage dissolutions were granted. Court filings reveal civil and criminal cases—ranging from restitution claims to domestic assault charges—that resulted in fines, probation and prison sentences.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Huntington Park near Monroe Street Dam will close Friday for Avista Utilities to move rocks and gravel and will reopen Saturday—then close again when the two- to three-week project ends for crane take down. The work will put material back into the river to keep a gravel source for downstream fish spawning.  KXLY
  • Voters will decide on a $440 million tax proposal that would rebuild an elementary school, add a new park, and expand sports facilities at the former Joe Albi Stadium site—plans that aim to boost local school and park access—if the measures pass this November.  The Spokesman-Review
