Maddie's Place is celebrating three years of support for vulnerable babies with a free open-house event today from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1004 E.
8th Avenue — guests can enjoy outdoor games, pumpkin decorating, face painting, and a visit from the coffee truck to learn more about the nonprofit's work.
Over the weekend, the first historic house was moved from the Gonzaga campus to Mt. Vernon Street on Spokane's South Hill; owner Saul Breithaupt coordinated the move and removed a roof (a modification needed for road clearance) to preserve the structure.
The house now sits without a roof on its new lot and awaits repairs as plans for moving the second house are underway.
Spokane's iconic Parkade parking structure was officially named a local historic landmark on Washington's state registry+ built in the 1960s with giant white letters that mark its modern design.
The structure now awaits potential national recognition+ which may secure its place as an important piece of Spokane's heritage.

Inland Imaging began construction on Eastern Washington's first comprehensive breast health center at 801 S.
Stevens St. in downtown Spokane—set to open in September—and the center will offer mammography, ultrasound, MRI, biopsies, risk assessment and genetic testing with same-day radiologist results.
Kevin Schneider, a Spokane Valley man, had his life saved when firefighters arrived in four minutes after his smartwatch called 911 for his cardiac arrest on August 18 while he was on his way to get groceries.
Two months later he visited Fire Station 10 with his daughter to thank the team—Schneider said he is very grateful for their quick help.
Researchers found that adults 50 and older who received the shingles vaccine had lower risks of heart problems, memory loss, and early death based on records from over 174,000 people.
The study supports CDC guidance that people get two doses to help lower serious complications from shingles (IDWeek).
