  • Skewers restaurant in downtown Spokane is offering free meals to anyone in need—an effort that comes as thousands of families face SNAP benefit cuts this week—and is providing essential support during this time.  KHQ
  • Jonathan Mallahan of Catholic Housing Ventures, Phil Altmeyer of Union Gospel Mission, and Simon Moorby of Hogwash Whiskey Den discussed the Housing First approach yesterday and how its focus on quickly providing safe homes can change lives.   • Spokane residents can join Dia de los Muertos celebrations this weekend that honor Hispanic traditions — including ofrendas with monarch butterflies, marigolds and salt — to remember loved ones. SPORTS NEWS

  • Washington State's cross country teams enter the West Coast Conference championships as favorites with national rankings of 11th among men and 22nd among women at the new Flora Road venue known as The Course Spokane Valley on Saturday; races start at 10 a.m., free parking is available at Spokane Valley Commons with shuttle service beginning at 8:30 a.m.—no public parking is offered at the course.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Gonzaga's senior forward Graham Ike has been named to the NABA Division I Player of the Year Award and the Karl Malone Award watch lists and earned preseason honors from the West Coast Conference and CBS Sports + he averaged 17.3 points per game last season and is 41 points shy of reaching 1,000 career points.  The Spokesman-Review
