COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Small wooden pantries in Liberty Lake and across Spokane County are providing free meals to residents as food needs rise with colder weather and SNAP cuts—local organizer Noelle Otterson-Loperco said the service helps ease the shame of asking for help.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • On Saturday afternoon, families in Spokane celebrated Día de Muertos by honoring loved ones with traditional ofrendas & community gatherings. Nuestras Raíces led events at a Community Center from noon until 4 p.m. before hosting further festivities at No-Li Bier Hall.  KHQ
  • Spokane leaders from Catholic Charities and Union Gospel Mission along with a bar manager with lived experience discussed the Housing First model—an approach that eases barriers by providing housing before other services. They explained that while supportive housing helps lower emergency services use and reduce risks for the chronically homeless, challenges remain in meeting all needs.  Spokane Public Radio
  • Liberty Lake Police and MØDE will host a free women's self defense class on November 15 from 8 a.m. to noon at the MØDE Campus at 2110 North Molter Road—participants of all skill levels will learn key techniques during the class.  KXLY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Spokane Valley Summer Theatre canceled its 2026 season at University High School because the Central Valley School District changed planned dates—which made continuing the season too risky financially and operationally—and affecting thousands of ticket holders and camp participants. The theatre will still produce its holiday show, A Big Band Christmas Around the World, from December 19-21.  FOX 28 Spokane

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lane closures on North Division Street near West Hawthorne Road will begin Monday morning when WSDOT crews replace temporary asphalt with a new road surface — traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction at 7 a.m. Limited turns and detours will be in place until Wednesday, November 5.  FOX 28 Spokane

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Spokane Chiefs dropped their second home game in seven days when they lost 7-2 to the Everett Silvertips at the Arena Saturday—penalties and missing players due to illness hurt their play. Everett’s players, including Rhys Jamieson and Julius Miettinen, scored multiple goals while Coco Armstrong and Ethan Hughes added for the Chiefs.  The Spokesman-Review
