  • Family friends will host a fundraising dinner tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the Finnoe Design and Fabrication building on E. Magnesium Road to help cover medical and family expenses for a 9-year-old and her bonus dad injured in a motorcycle crash; the event—featuring a $25 barbecue dinner, live music and a silent auction of donated items—will support the family's ongoing recovery.  The Spokesman-Review

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Skagit Farmers Supply, the parent of AFCO Distribution in Spokane Valley, acquired Alaska Mill & Feed in Anchorage on November 1—retaining all its employees—and plans to combine strengths in feed milling and pet supply distribution.  Spokane Journal of Business
  • Kaiser Aluminum finished a $25 million expansion at its Trentwood rolling mill after a pause during the pandemic—this work improved a heat-treat furnace to boost output by 5% while keeping about 1,000 full-time workers on the job.  Spokane Journal of Business
  • Swire Coca-Cola USA opened its expanded facility at 9705 E. Montgomery in Spokane Valley on Oct. 28—its size grew from 38,600 to 102,000 square feet with 58,000 square feet of new warehouse space. The $22.4M project added 10,100 square feet of office space—upgrades that include LED lighting and a solar power system to boost capacity to process 4.3 million cases annually.  Spokane Journal of Business

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Analysts and business groups met at the State of the Region event hosted by Greater Spokane Incorporated at the Spokane Convention Center on November 5. They discussed how the ongoing government shutdown could delay economic recovery as federal employees faced job and spending cuts—economists warned the slowdown may continue if uncertainty persists.  FOX 28 Spokane

HEALTH NEWS

  • Providence Sacred Heart broke its record for the most kidney transplants in 2025 by performing 76 procedures—up from 59 last year—and increased staffing with four transplant surgeons and two transplant nephrologists. Enhanced donor strategies and improved care access helped the hospital achieve this milestone.  KXLY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Gonzaga and Oregon will play a nonconference game on Dec. 21 at Portland's Moda Center as the first of two planned meetings under a new contract— the agreement also secures a future game at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena in either the 2026-27 or 2027-28 season, which Oregon coach Dana Altman confirmed during a media call.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Washington State moved its game against Oregon State to Spokane Numerica Veterans Arena on January 4—this marks the second time WSU uses the arena this season as it will also play Eastern Washington on December 17 with tickets now on sale.  KXLY
  • The Cougars will move their Jan. 4 game against Oregon State to Spokane, with the game set for 4:30 p.m. at Spokane Arena. Season ticket holders will be offered comparable seats—no extra cost as the team adjusts its schedule for winter break.  The Spokesman-Review
