- ➤ Silverwood is being sold to a national corporation and the sale will change how the park is run. The new owners may alter local jobs and services—details about operational shifts are still pending. KXLY
- ➤ Trader Joe’s plans a new location for Spokane Valley at the old Shopko building on Sprague Avenue and Blake Road—its application was submitted on November 11 and construction has no set timeline. KXLY
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Disney On Ice: Let's Dance is happening today through November 16 at Spokane Arena where Mickey and friends perform lively Disney routines. Families can join a preshow experience with Anna and Elsa—featuring games and sing-alongs—and tickets start at $31 with an extra fee for the character event. KHQ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Adams Elementary staff and students have begun a 24-day countdown to vacate the 116-year-old school—an effort fueled by Spokane Public Schools’ $200 million bond initiative. After winter break on Dec. 19, students will attend classes at Jefferson Elementary while demolition starts and plans for a new school are set to finish for the 2027-28 year. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ The Ballmer Group has pledged funding that could cover up to $170 million per year to help expand the state program by adding 10,000 new free pre-kindergarten seats over the next 10 years — a move expected to boost access for low-income families. - ➤ Washington State University began a system-wide redesign in October to modernize its campuses and meet state needs—surveys will collect community feedback until December while a final proposal was expected by June. - ➤ Sen. Patty Murray wrote to the Defense Department saying that delaying PFAS cleanup at Fairchild Air Force Base is unacceptable—military families and the local community must have safe drinking water. She requested a briefing before Dec. 15 as the cleanup now is set to begin only after a feasibility study is completed in June 2032. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ EWU geology professor Chad Pritchard found PFAS in West Plains wells and the Spokane County PFAS Response Task Force will spend $6 million on filter equipment for high-risk homes+local water officials are working to protect drinking water supplies. Meanwhile, Spokane city library director Andrew Chanse is asking residents to support a new levy to restore funding for the library next year after recent budget cuts reduced its funds.
