COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Wednesday, Union Gospel Mission hosted its annual Thanksgiving dinner and served over 250 guests with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pies—a long-running tradition that has supported many in Spokane during the holiday. Staff, volunteers and men in recovery prepared the meal to offer a restaurant-style experience, strengthening community bonds.  KHQ
  • Flocks of turkeys have slowed South Hill traffic during morning drives while two local baseball players named their 45+ team after the birds—reflecting the area's unique charm. Wildlife official Matt Brinkman said the non-native turkeys, first introduced decades ago for hunting, have thrived despite few predators although some residents complain about garden damage.  KHQ
  • Spokane street outreach teams work every day to help homeless people by offering blankets, clothes, and conversation—referring them to the Daytime Navigation Center when needed. In the first 12 days, the teams resolved 96 encampments and continue to reach out to those who need help.  FOX 28 Spokane

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Spokane Chiefs, missing key players due to international showcases, lost 6-1 to the visiting Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday at the Arena—six unanswered goals led to the defeat. Assistant coach Jake Toporowski said the team would work daily to improve its power play and unity for future games.  The Spokesman-Review
