  • On Friday, the Church of Jesus Christ donated 36,000 pounds of non-perishable food to Partners INW in Spokane Valley. A 53-ft semitruck traveled from Salt Lake City carrying 24 pallets with items like pasta + beans to help over 1,000 people, officials said.  The Spokesman-Review

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Locust Cider announced that four of its six taprooms (in Spokane, Woodinville, and Seattle) will close due to rising costs while two remain open. The company will expand cider sales through restaurants, bars, and groceries.  FOX 28 Spokane

  • Spokane Valley residents are cutting holiday waste by planning grocery runs carefully and choosing reusable wrapping during the season from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day — these efforts help reduce a spike in trash buildup and rising disposal fees.  FOX 28 Spokane

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The WA State Department of Veterans Affairs finalized purchasing 41.5 acres on Nov. 3 for a new Veterans Home Campus near the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center — the project will now move into design and site preparation.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Residents on North Calispel Street have not had mail delivered for three weeks — a result of repeated dog attacks on mail carriers — and now must use a community mailbox for deliveries. Several locals have called USPS for more details, but no answers have yet been given.  FOX 28 Spokane

HEALTH NEWS

  • Spokane pediatrician Dr. Sarah d’Hulst warned that stopping the universal hepatitis B shot for newborns may lead to increased mom-to-infant transmission. The CDC panel voted on Friday to change the long-run recommendation, and the policy now awaits final review by the health secretary.  The Spokesman-Review
