  • Red Cross operates multiple shelters amid flooding in Spokane while local emergency crews, including 12 firefighters from the Spokane Fire Department, help with water rescues in Snohomish County today. Shelter locations will change as river levels fluctuate and families need assistance.  KHQ

CULTURE NEWS

  • BrrrZaar, Terrain’s winter market, will take place at Riverpark Square featuring over 80 local makers offering gifts under $100 and live music from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.—the event will showcase vibrant art by James Frye at the Kress Gallery and creative leather goods by Sarita Morgan.  The Spokesman-Review

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Golfers face higher fees next season as Spokane County commissioners approved raising rounds from $48 to $52 and season passes from $2,400 to $2,800 while the city weighs a $5 fee increase for pre-booked rounds from $56 to $80 — a step to meet rising operation costs.  KXLY
  • Research from Eastern Washington University shows that Spokane County's median household income rose to over $86,000 in 2024—surpassing the national median—after a $16,000 jump from 2023 that left economists puzzled about whether increased worker earnings or transfer payments drove the change.  Spokane Public Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A WSU study finds that next-year fee increases will cause thicker plastic bags to add more waste even as shoppers use fewer bags at local stores. State agencies say more data is needed to decide if the law, which delayed a bag-thickness change to 2028, will lower plastic pollution.  The Spokesman-Review

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study that tracked over 8,300 children found that social media use gradually reduced kids' ability to concentrate from ages 9 to 13. Researchers noted that time on TV and video games showed no similar effect and warn parents local children may be at increased risk for ADHD.  FOX 28 Spokane

  • This winter season, 15 of 17 Greater Spokane League schools will hold dual meets for full girls wrestling teams under a new rule that separates girls and boys, giving senior wrestlers like Cheney’s Jalisca Holmgren a chance to compete as a team—boosting exposure and success for local athletes.  The Spokesman-Review
  • The Greater Spokane League winter schedule features basketball & wrestling games with key contests on Dec. 16 at G-Prep, Dec. 18 at the Arena, and the Eagle Holiday Classic starting Dec. 27.
