  • New giving machines are available at Spokane Valley Mall today to provide residents with a convenient way to exchange donations. Mall officials say the initiative will support local sharing and may expand based on community feedback.  KXLY
  • Spokane Valley Fire Department's Swiftwater Rescue Strike Team and Spokane Fire Department rescued two groups of residents stranded in flood-hit Skagit and Snohomish counties Wednesday (helped by a National Guard helicopter). The responders remain on standby to assist further as historic floods sparked widespread evacuations.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Residents now can support flood relief by donating through GoFundMe’s centralized hub for verified fundraisers targeting those impacted by recent flooding in Washington and the Pacific Northwest—tax-deductible contributions help fund immediate relief for affected communities.  KHQ

  • The US Chess Federation is hosting the 2025 K-12 National Chess Championship this weekend at the Spokane Convention Center, where over 1,300 students compete for a trophy and bragging rights.   • On Dec. 12, the Washington Poison Center warned residents recovering from recent floods to discard spoiled food, boil water if advised, ventilate cleaning areas, and check medications for damage — measures to prevent exposure to harmful bacteria, chemicals, and toxic gases.  FOX 28 Spokane

  • Seattle’s Kraken dropped a 5-3 game in Utah on Friday as Mason Marchment doubled his season goal total and local native Kailer Yamamoto scored the go-ahead goal — the team struggled on power play, allowing two late Mammoth scores.  The Spokesman-Review
