COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Evergreen Elementary fifth graders held a food drive after learning about food insecurity in their class, gathering over 5,000 items for families in need. The drive closes today at 215 W. Elmore Ave - donations will go to Feed Spokane.  KXLY
  • Lutheran Community Services Northwest in Spokane announced Bess (a nearly two-year-old canine skilled in over 90 cues) will join victim support services as Walker retires after eight years. Bess supports survivors during counseling sessions to ensure a safe, controlled environment.  KHQ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Spokane Symphony’s Christmas Tree Elegance sold 546,043 $1 raffle tickets, breaking last year’s record by over 20,000 and boosting funds for the symphony. Winners were drawn Sunday at Historic Davenport Hotel (a local landmark) with trees on display at Riverpark Square.  KXLY
  • Today, the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture announced a major donation to help preserve the historic Campbell House during a press event at 11:30 a.m. The museum’s Campbell House Holiday Open House will run Dec. 18—21 and feature historic interpreters, tours, and sugar cookies.  KXLY
  • Spokane’s Facilities District announced the Blessing in Disguise Music Festival, a one-day event scheduled for next summer at ONE Spokane Stadium and The Podium. Ticket sales begin Friday, and a dollar from each ticket will support Team Gleason.  KXLY

HEALTH NEWS

  • With some communities not adding fluoride to water, dentists advise parents to supervise brushing (to help prevent decay) and use fluoride toothpaste, rinses or varnish to protect kids’ teeth.  FOX 28 Spokane

SPORTS NEWS

  • Gonzaga senior Graham Ike earned his second honor after scoring 25 points in an 82-72 win over UCLA Saturday. He was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week Monday + one of five players to win the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week award Tuesday.  The Spokesman-Review
