Avista crews restored power for about 86% of customers by Thursday afternoon after a severe windstorm and continue repairs on 11,875 outages with work in northern Idaho expected to finish by Sunday.
On its final day, the Christmas Bureau delivered toys and books to local families amid shorter lines and popular items nearly gone while volunteers kept the process smooth and donations (now totaling over $446K) helped boost the fundraising goal.
Utilities steadily restored power after Wednesday's windstorm, cutting outages from 100,000 at their peak to about 20,000 by Thursday morning, plus Vera Water and Power in Spokane Valley restored all its customers.
Crews continue working to bring service back to the region.

Alaskan Airlines announced seasonal direct flights from Spokane to Anchorage that will run from June 10 to August 15 (Fridays and Saturdays).
The new service gives local travelers a summer option to visit Alaska.

Brendan Hughes, a top Mt. Spokane wrestler, is set to defend his 2023 title at the Tri-State Invitational at North Idaho College today at 10 a.m. and tomorrow at 3 p.m. after recovering from a torn ACL.
The WIAA now requires schools to have girls wrestle only girls starting in the 2026-27 season.
