- ➤ Spokane community mourned Sergeant Kenneth Salas (59) who died in the line of duty on Saturday morning after being struck by a motorcycle while he was removing hay bales from a truck on I-90 near Four Lakes, and he served 34 years while planning to retire at the end of September. KXLY
- ➤ A man was rescued by Spokane County Fire District 8 after being stuck in the mud for several hours in the Saltese Flats area—a heat advisory is in effect from noon today to 8 p.m. Tuesday. KHQ

- ➤ Two Spokane Public Schools, Audubon Elementary and Mullan Road Elementary, were recognized in early August as America’s Healthiest Schools by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. The schools earned honors for programs in health services, nutrition, physical education, and social-emotional learning (including these key areas) and are among only four schools in Washington to receive the award.
